Visited PNG after 14 years but headed to Kokoda, PNG

Well I just returned from PNG on Monday, 29 August 2011.  The opportunity presented itself to me where I was in a  position to go to Kokoda in Oro Province, Papua New Guinea for 2 weeks, so I took it.  It was an emotional time for me that after being away from PNG for 14 years, I would finally get to go back again, even if it was only for a short time and not to my home time of Lae, Morobe Province, PNG.

On Friday, 12 August 2011 after my plane had touched down at Port Moresby International Airport (I had always known it as Jacksons Airport and was surprised at the name shown on the airport's building.) After I had been custom cleared, I was greeted by my cousin Gulingo Dawong and my Tolai aunt Jessie (the wife of my uncle Jimmy Wan, a police officer in the PNG Police Force.) Unfortunately I did not have time to spend with my family, my cousin Gulingo and my aunt Jessie, just only had enough time to give them a hug and a kiss and then found that Gail Thomas from Kokoda Trekking Limited had to whisk me away.  For it was Gail who had arranged for me to come to PNG to assist with the Kokoda Challenge Race 2011.

I believe the last time I was in Port Moresby, they were building the new International Airport which is the current one that my plane arrived at.

 It is cheap to fly from Brisbane to Port Moresby only, flying Airlines of PNG who also code shares with Pacific Blue.  If you need to connect to any parts of PNG then you will have to make separate booking arrangements within PNG when you get there.  I will provide all these information in the future in my My PNG and Australia Travel and Tourism Blog.
